Possible Extension Of Stamp Duty Deadline

With the stamp duty relief scheme due to end on March 31st the Government are coming under increasing pressure to extend the scheme to avoid any issues with property sales running out of time.

It is widely anticipated that the Budget announcement on March 3rd may clarify the Government's position on this policy. At this point it is uncertain what may happen if the current deadline is left as it is. House buyers and vendors could ideally benefit from this position being clarified sooner rather than later to end this uncertainty.

It is likely that the Chancellor Rishi Sunak will announce some form of extension - either in the form of a phased reduction of the relief or a proposal whereby all existing deals are allowed to progress to a conclusion even if this date is beyond the end of March.
